What is National Identity Card (NID) ?

National Identity Number (NID) is  digital identity card issued by the government of Nepal in order to replace the traditional paper documents. It contains a secure chip which contains citizen's biometrics like finger prints, irsis scans, photo which are associciated with the unique identificationon number called National Identity Number(NIN).

Who can apply?

The citizen who is minimum 16 years of age and holds a valid citizenship are eligible to apply for the NID card.

Why NID?

NID has various uses in the present context of Nepal. The main purpose of the NID is to replace old physical document papers with digital card containg biometrics of the card holder which helps to stop identity frauds.

Also, National Identity Card is mandatory for different service like applying passports, registering sim cards, securing social security funds. One must decare Naitional Identity number to open or contniue bank accounts, otherwise bank account will freeze. Account holders are responsible to declare whether they have National Identity number or not in the bank accounts for the continuation of banking service.

What is eNID?

eNID is the digital official copy of NID issued by the Department of National ID and Civil Registration. The persons who has applied for NID but hasn't reveived the physical card can download electronic copy of NID from this site.

Who can download eNID?

The person who has successfully applied for the national identity card are eligible for downloading eNID. It acts as a provisional card who hasn't received a physical card.

How to download eNID?

To download eNID, one can follow follwing process to download eNID

• Open any web broser and and enter https://citizenportal.donidcr.gov.np/.

• Click on Download Your eNID.
• Enter your details and type captcha and then click on search.

• Then verify your OTP reveived in your registered number by entering OTP.

• After OTP verification you will receive  your NID details in the screen.

• Then click on card download.
• After download you will receive Password protected pdf file of NID.
• The password for pdf will be first 4 letter of your name in ENGLISH and your birth year. Suppose your name is Shyam and birth year is 2051-01-01. Then your password will be SHYA2051.
• Then after you enter you password , you can easily view and save your eNID.

In this way you can easily download your eNID. Although process seems to be clear and simple, you may got data not found message even if your details are correct. So you have to try again and again . Make sure you have entered your correct details. Even it says data not found, it doesn't meant that your data is not available. There is some probems in the website data.
